21st Birthday cakes were on the agenda again this weekend. Carina is celebrating her 21st birthday tonight and I had the pleasure of creating her birthday cake. She chose the colour scheme of orange and pink, such fun, bright colours for spring.
The bottom gift box was dark chocolate mudcake filled with dark chocolate ganache and covered with fondant. The top gift box was white chocolate mudcake filled with white chocolate ganache and covered with fondant. The gift bows are made with modelling paste.
Madelyn is also celebrating her 21st birthday tonight. Her mum organised her cake as a surprise for her. The colour scheme was white, black and red with a shoe and handbag element. I have made this design before in a pastel colour scheme.
The bottom tier was dark chocolate mudcake filled with chocolate ganache and fondant covering. The shoe box was caramel mudcake filled with white chocolate ganache and fondant covering.
The shoes, handbag and tissue paper were made from modelling paste.
Both of these cakes were a joy to create, happy birthday Carina and Madelyn :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

A New Cake Stand.
I wrote a while back about my obsession with cake stands (you can read about it here ), after writing this my friend Gail put me in touch with a wonderful lady who makes pottery. I spoke to Rowena and showed her the type of stand I wanted and she set to work making one for me. Rowena showcases her fabulous work on Row's Pottery Shed. Please head over and check out her blog.
The stand arrived in the post today and it is exactly what I imagined.
The stand is going to take centre stage on the dessert table for my little girl's first birthday in a couple of weeks. The ruffled cake will look perfect on it!
The top of the stand has an impression on it, which is fabulous.
I made some mini chocolate cupcakes tonight for my son to take to preschool tomorrow, so thought I would take some photo's of them on my new stand!
Rowena provides a step by step on making the stand here, there are two different sized stands shown there too.
Thankyou Rowena for creating this gorgeous stand for me and adding to my growing collection of cake stands.

Butterflies and Blossom Birthday Cake for Lana.
Today was spent putting together this pretty birthday cake for my cousin, Lana, who is turning 20 at the weekend. She requested a dark chocolate mudcake, colour theme white and purple, butterflies and flowers, but the design left up to me. I have done a wedding cake in a similar theme a while back, so used this as a guide.
The cake is filled and covered in dark chocolate ganache and covered in fondant. The butterflies and blossoms are made from modelling paste. I used three different sized blossoms and small butterflies and the design just evolved as I was decorating the cake. The writing is done with royal icing.
The butterflies on wires add some height to the cake and the rope border finishes the cake off nicely. I have the cake displayed on my gorgeous new black cake stand, that arrived in the post yesterday!
Happy 20th birthday Lana, enjoy your dinner and cake tonight.

I have a Cake Stand Obsession!!!!
This I believe is a natural thing seeing as I love anything cake. It is such a shame that here in Australia we don't have access to some of the wonderful products available in the UK or US. Actually we do, but the postage costs generally put a stop to anything I want to purchase, as most of the time the postage is more than the actual item :(
My current collection of cake stands is limited to white or glass. I love using these but often dream of adding a splash of colour every now and then. As I mentioned in my party planning post I have a gorgeous black stand coming from Sharnel, which will feature in my next party.
Today when the Etsy newsletter arrived in my inbox it was titled "The Sweet Life", which instantly caught my attention. I have just had a quick browse through it and came across this seller, vesselsandwares, who stock some fabulous cake stands.

There are many colours and patterns amongst this pottery, that is made by Jeanette. There are some gorgeous hanging bowls too!

Some other gorgeous stands that are on my wish list include this pretty pink one from Donna Hay.

And this white and red spot one from Rosanna Inc.

Until I can add some of these little beauties to my collection I will have to be content with my set of white stands!
Enjoy your week.
