Apricot Frills.

Today is my mum's birthday and for the past few years for some reason or another she has missed out on a "nice" birthday cake from me, so this year I ensured that I made an effort for her. Now that I am only creating cakes for family I have a little more time on my hands, so decided to try a frilly cake.

The cake is a cherry ripe mudcake with dark chocolate ganache filling. It is covered in apricot fondant and finished with fondant frills and a pretty white flower.

There are a lot of frilly cakes appearing on the net at the moment. My frills are not quite as fine as I would have liked, but the cake still looks pretty.

We are celebrating this afternoon, with cake and cupcakes, and presents. We have created a photobook of all of the grandchildren for my mum, it is a surprise and she is going to love it. We all went to my brothers farm a few weeks ago and I took hundreds of photos, about 60 made the book! Can't wait to see her reaction when she opens it.

Happy birthday Mum :)

Enjoy your week.

Ruby's 8th Birthday.

Last weekend our niece Ruby turned 8. She received a little bunny for her birthday, so I decided to theme her cake around rabbits. You may remember me making her a life like rabbit cake last year for her birthday.

The number 8 cake was made up of caramel mudcake and white chocolate mudcake, filled with white chocolate ganache and covered with ivory fondant.

I hand modelled the little rabbits our of fondant. They could easily be used for an Easter cake too!

Ruby had a wonderful birthday celebrating at the pool with her friends. Her real rabbit, Blossom, is very cute and fitting into their family nicely.

Happy Birthday Ruby Claire xxx
