Ruby's 8th Birthday.

Last weekend our niece Ruby turned 8. She received a little bunny for her birthday, so I decided to theme her cake around rabbits. You may remember me making her a life like rabbit cake last year for her birthday.

The number 8 cake was made up of caramel mudcake and white chocolate mudcake, filled with white chocolate ganache and covered with ivory fondant.

I hand modelled the little rabbits our of fondant. They could easily be used for an Easter cake too!

Ruby had a wonderful birthday celebrating at the pool with her friends. Her real rabbit, Blossom, is very cute and fitting into their family nicely.

Happy Birthday Ruby Claire xxx

Rachel and Mick's White and Black Wedding Cake

This week I had the pleasure of making another wedding cake for a lovely couple who were getting married on Friday. Rachel and Mick chose a design and sent it to me, again I am unsure of the original source.

As the wedding was only a small family affair, they didn't require a large amount of cake so we decided on using styro foam cake dummies for most of the cake. The cake was 4 tiers high with the bottom tier being dark chocolate mudcake with dark chocolate ganache and the top 3 tiers were cake dummies.

The colour combination of white with a touch of black was very stylish, with the tiny black blossoms finishing the cake off nicely.

Congratulations to Rachel and Mick on your marriage.

Enjoy the week ahead.

Susan and Brenden's Wedding Cake.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of creating a wedding cake for a lovely couple, Susan and Brenden. I have created cakes for them in the past so it was nice to be able to be a part of their special day.

Susan sent me a photo of the design she liked, unfortunately I don't know the original source. The wedding colour palette was ivory.

The three tier cake was double height, covered in ivory fondant, with handmade roses and finished with sparkling swarovski crystals.

The bottom tier was dark chocolate mudcake, the middle tier was caramel mudcake and the top tier was white chocolate mudcake.

The reception venue was styled perfectly, simple but elegant.

Congratulations to Susan and Brenden!

Christmas 2011!

Happy New Year to you all, I can't believe it is already 11 days into the new year! I was hoping 2012 was going to go by a little slower.

We hosted Christmas lunch for 12 at our place this year, it was a wonderful celebration, with lot's of yummy food, laughs and enjoyment watching the children open presents and share the joy of Christmas with their cousins.

As there were only 12 of us (6 of these being children) I put together a small lolly and dessert table. Our colour theme this year was red and turquoise.

The table consisted of the Christmas Tree Cake (3 layers of cherry ripe mudcake), inspired by Bubble and Sweet, blue and red jelly pots, pannacotta pots, christmas tree sugar cookies, lindt chocolates, baci chocolates, tree lollypops and assorted lollies - jaffas, raspberry bon bons, blue clouds, red licorice and red frogs.

The children love being able to help themselves to all of the treats, and making the individual jelly and pannacotta pots is an easy way to control portion size, as the pots are just enough for little mouths and tummies!

Vendor information:
Wooden teaspoons and bon bons by Sweet Style.
Tree candy jar and lollypops by Sharnel Dollar Designs.
Glass pots and ribbon cake stand by Tracey Lau Art and Soul.

Our children received lots of fabulous presents including a new 14ft trampoline. Oliver received an iPod among other things, Claire received a gorgeous fabric tee-pee among other things and Lachlan received a baby Bearded Dragon among other things.

Here is Max, the newest addition to the family. He is a very cute little lizard.

I was very excited to wake up this morning and see Claire's 2nd Birthday featured on Eat Drink Pretty Blog. It is a wonderful party blog and a great honour to have another party featured. Please head over and have a look.

Enjoy the rest of the week :)

What I have been up to!

It is now 3 days until Christmas and I am finally organised! The past few weeks have been busy with all the usual end of year events. I have been making a few cakes as well as working.

I will keep the words brief as there are lots of photo's to share with you.

The next series of photo's are from the Year 6 Farewell Dinner for the children at my son's school. This year I have been Vice President on the P&C Committee and volunteered to help organise the dinner. The theme was Masquerade, with the colours being red, gold, black and white. I made the tissue pom poms, the mask cookie favours and the cake and cupcakes. It was held at the local Bowling Club and the transformation of the room was amazing! The children had a fabulous night, each receiving a signature bear to create memories with.

So that is a wrap up of the last few weeks in cakes! We are hosting Christmas lunch at our house, so the preparations for the dessert table have begun.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, enjoy the time spent with those close to you and stay safe.

Thankyou for supporting my little blog in 2011, I look forward to continuing it in the new year.

7 Christmas Related Things About Me!

A few weeks ago, Leanne from Sweet Style, passed on a blogging award which requires me to share 7 Christmas Related things with you. It has taken me a while to get to it, but as it is the 1st December today, what better day to write this post! Here are a few of my favourite things about the festive season.

1. Putting up the Christmas tree! Ours went up a few weeks ago, we had purchased a new one, it is white and some new decorations, red and turquoise is the colour theme this year, so I was anxious to get it up and decorated.

 { Dodgy iPhone photo of the tree}

2.  Christmas cards! Since having our children I have always enjoyed taking a "christmas card photo" and having the christmas cards made to send to all of our friends and family. This year we had a few photo shoots until we got the right photo. I was thrilled with how the cards turned out. I put them in the post yesterday so they would arrive on the 1st December.

3. Gingerbread cookies! I love eating gingerbread, so love this time of year as it is an excuse to make lots of it for gifts, and there are always leftovers :) I seem to gather more Christmas themed cookie cutters each year, from very small to very large - trees, stars, gingerbread men, angels, christmas baubles. I tried out some gift ideas a few weeks ago. The flint jar is from Sharnel Dollar Designs.

4. Buying Christmas presents! Each year I vow to be more organised when it comes to purchasing the presents. I do a lot of online shopping, as living in the country it is just easier. The adults always prove to be the most difficult to choose presents for. I love coordinating the wrapping of my presents, this year I have purchased glossy red paper and pretty turquoise organza ribbon to tie pretty bows on the presents.

5. Christmas carols! We have had carols playing in our car for a few weeks already, I love singing along to them with the kids.

6. Spending time with family and friends! The festive season is a wonderful time for catching up with everyone. I find that everyone is so busy in our everyday lives, that it is a nice time to relax and enjoy good food and company.

7. The countdown to Christmas day! Now that the children are a little older they are so excited about christmas, so the countdown has been on for about 65 days now! Today marks the first day to open the advent calenders, so the real countdown begins. They were asking at 6:20am this morning if they could open them :)

I now have to pass this onto a few other fabulous bloggers :

Enjoy the rest of the week.

A few Cakes!

Life is so busy for me at the moment, that my poor blog is neglected again. I am hoping to find some time to blog now that we are heading into the Christmas season!

My lovely friend, Leanne, from Sweet Style has passed on a blogging award to me, so I will be back later in the week to share 7 random things about Christmas with you.

My cake decorating has slowed down at the moment, a new job and life in general has taken over. Thought I would share a few that I have made over the past couple of months. I warn you it is photo overload!

There were some really fun cakes amongst these, I miss decorating at the moment, but still have a few family cakes to do over the next few weeks.

Enjoy your week.
