21st Birthday Celebrations.

21st Birthday cakes were on the agenda again this weekend. Carina is celebrating her 21st birthday tonight and I had the pleasure of creating her birthday cake. She chose the colour scheme of orange and pink, such fun, bright colours for spring.

The bottom gift box was dark chocolate mudcake filled with dark chocolate ganache and covered with fondant. The top gift box was white chocolate mudcake filled with white chocolate ganache and covered with fondant. The gift bows are made with modelling paste.

Madelyn is also celebrating her 21st birthday tonight. Her mum organised her cake as a surprise for her. The colour scheme was white, black and red with a shoe and handbag element. I have made this design before in a pastel colour scheme.

The bottom tier was dark chocolate mudcake filled with chocolate ganache and fondant covering. The shoe box was caramel mudcake filled with white chocolate ganache and fondant covering.

The shoes, handbag and tissue paper were made from modelling paste.

Both of these cakes were a joy to create, happy birthday Carina and Madelyn :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Cupcake Towers

The past weekend was all about cupcake towers - a wedding and a 21st birthday party. Lisa contacted me about 6 months ago about creating a cupcake tower for her wedding to Jerry. This would be the first time I have done a wedding cupcake tower with cutting cake, so I was very excited. The colour theme was ivory, black and silver.

The cupcakes were vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream swirls and tiny silver cachous. The cutting cake was white chocolate mudcake filled and covered with vanilla buttercream. The topper was provided by the bride.

On the tables the guests received vanilla sugar cookie favours in organza bags. The large heart shaped cookie was embossed with the happy couple's initials and the small heart shaped cookie was embossed with a floral pattern.

The wedding was held at the gorgeous Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.Unfortunately the weather was cold and rainy, but the bride looked stunning, and from all reports it was a wonderful celebration.

The following day Jessie-Rose was celebrating her 21st birthday party and requested a cupcake tower too. The colour scheme was almost the same as the wedding - black, silver and white. Jessie-Rose also requested an open gift box cutting cake.

The cupcakes were vanilla sponge cake with buttercream swirls, tiny silver cachous and fondant "21"'s. The cutting cake was cherry ripe mudcake filled with dark chocolate ganache and fondant covering. The present bow and tissue paper were made from modelling paste.

I spoke to Jessie-Rose's mum yesterday, as she is my son's teacher, and she said that Jessie-Rose wouldn't let anyone cut the present box! Hopefully they have by now, as it would be a shame to miss out on such a delicious flavoured cake!

This weekend brings another two 21st birthday cakes, so be sure to come back to see what I create for Madelyn and Carina.

Enjoy your week.

A Nice Mix of Cakes this Week.

After the relaxing holiday, I am straight back into baking and decorating. This week was made up of three very different cakes. Firstly, Lavinia was turning 4 and requested a Barbie cake. It was pink coloured white chocolate mudcake with white chocolate ganache and fondant covering.

The next cake was for a gorgeous little boy, Toby, who was being christened today. This was also white chocolate mudcake with white chocolate ganache and fondant covering. The bib, blocks and stars were hand made from modelling paste.

The final cake for the weekend was for Byron who was turning 5. He requested a motorbike on his birthday cake. I hand made the motorbike plaque from modelling paste, by copying a picture I found on the net. The cake was deep, dark chocolate cake with creamy chocolate buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream covering.

Tomorrow the preparations begin for Lisa and Jerry's wedding cakes and cookies as well as Jessie-Rose' 21 birthday cakes. So another busy week baking and decorating for me.

Enjoy your week.

I'm Back.

My poor blog has been neglected for the past few weeks. I am back now and have lot's of cakes in the coming weeks to share with you all. Life has been busy and we have also just spent 7 days at Surfers Paradise on a long overdue holiday.

I enjoyed the time away, lucky for the iphone I was able to still read all my favourite blogs, but didn't do a lot of commenting. I hope to catch up with them all this weekend, in between baking and decorating, swimming lessons, ironing and housework!

Christmas is also sneaking up on me, I am planning a Christmas dessert and candy table for our family lunch, so am gathering supplies and recipes for this. I am sticking with traditional colours this year - red, green and white.

I will leave you with this image, would love to be spending my Christmas looking out this window!!
